    Clutch change suggestions

Anyone got any suggestions on getting a clutch changed. I got quoted 1500 and 1300 - knew it wouldn't be cheap but I didn't think it would be that rich.

Quote sounded dodgy - 1200 with stock clutch and 1500 with Excedy - yet Yonas sells them within 100 bucks of each other. Will buy the HD organic through him but need someone reliable and good to swap it in and machine the flywheel - Blacktown area unless there's someone good. I've done the job in a 70's Civic but don't have a hoist etc anymore, plus old age is catching up.

I've been quoted $4-500 for labour...but the petrol station mechanic near me also quoted $1000+. He obviously wanted to stick to oil change servicing.

        not game to DIY?

here is where you should buy your clutch from: http://www.clutch-kits-australia.com...lutch-kit.html

dont pay a mechanic to buy your clutch and add $200 to what he paid, get it straight from this guy...

        edit - price for SO (HCK-7111SO) is $583 + 25 freight.

and ask him how much to install.

or try to get a decent shipping quote from THMotorsports for an Exedy SO '08800B' clutch if you can wait a few weeks?

I got mine replaced at the beginning of the year.
New clutch, slave and master plus all the labour was about $1200 if i recall correctly.

EDIT: The clutch was a heavy duty Exedy clutch if that makes much difference.

it is a 5-6 hour job and usually do fluids too, so 1200 is good.

i recently did my wifes jazz and my own DC2 clutch.

its very hard on your upper body working under jack stands with no air-tools, but saving over a grand in labour means the beer at the end of the test drive is all that much tastier...

Air compressor, rattle gun and some help from other is always good to have.
Can you drop the gearbox out of a DC2R without removing sub-frame?

I remember I did mine at home and had to drop the sub frame. BIG job to do on your back with jack stands.
2nd clutch I did was on a friends hoist at his workshop... We removed gearbox with crane this time.

The underbody on the dc2 is completely different to the dc5. The dc2 does not have the square subframe like the dc5 and is a little easier to get out. I have done both on the ground and on hoists and the dc5 is a hell of alot easier on a hoist. Dc2 is about the same on the ground or on the hoist

there is only a small subframe on DC2s so yes, it just drops straight out underneath without having to remove the subframe.

i also did the Jazz without dropping the subframe, despite this being "impossible" according to wankers at Honda

Job can be done within 3-4hrs. The most time consuming part is waiting for the damn flywheel to get machine.....

Thanks to all for the replys. I would DIY but my garage sucks and TBH, the last time I did a FWD clutch myself it was when I was considerably younger and was working on a '76 Civic

I need to get off my zimmer frame and try and do some of the big stuff again... but not this time.

Benny, got your PM after one from Yonas and replied to him before I saw yours. Same quote though, both of you much better than the locals here. I have some other work I'd like to toss your way though

Unlucky Setanta, I just sold my Brand new unused Exedy SO Heavy Duty Clutch for the DC2 for 340 bucks, + 20 postage and you would've saved a heap.
