One of the scariest moments yet with the DC5...

Hey guys, today I was just parking up a drive with was on an angle (hill like). I reversed the DC5R up and put the hand brake on and in neutral gear. Next thing I know, I hear this screeching noise coming from the rear of wheels/brakes. I didn't think much of it until my mates put a trolley jack into my boot. It weighed a good 40KGS or so. Then the car just started to roll down the drive way with this horrible screeching noise coming from the rear brakes ! Luckily the driver side door was still opened so I just jump in and stomp on the brakes. The drive way wasn't even that steep..

Has anyone experienced this ? And is there something wrong with my handbrake.. ? Please help me..

Probably didnt pull the handbrake up high enough?

If u did. Take it to a mechanic to get it looked at, otherwise when u park on a hill put it in gear

      How steep was the hill?

When I started driving, the rule of thumb was if you park your car on a pretty steep hill always put it in gear.

I also learnt that when my mates car rolled down a hill and crashed into a tree because the handbrake couldn't hold the car.

        The slope was about this

And I'm pretty sure the handbrake was pulled up good !
I will try it again tonight..
As for putting it into gear, if the car is faced downhill, would it make a difference ?

Is the hand brake suppose to be making screeching noises ? :S

I would check the adjustment of your handbrake first:

It is always wise to leave the car in gear though, growing up on a very steep hill taught me this.

The car should be left in gear regardless if the car is facing up or down any kind of hill. And it usually 1st gear that i leave it in
