Modification: cost, supplier and review register - worthwhile idea?

I know it's a long paragraph, but hear me out.

So for my own purposes, I'm thinking of setting up an excel register of the various modifications, suppliers and reviews so I can pick a direction to take my car and can set valid goals in terms of savings and performance...

What this will entail is - a spreadsheet with a list of different classes of modification/components, and under that, suppliers and manufacturers of each type of component - so for instance, one column can be titled "Engine Mounts" - and under that, I'd have the various brands listed under each, eg Hardrace, innovative, mugen etc - and next to brands, I'd have a rough, average price one would expect to pay.

Each brand could also have a supplemental reference number, listing a set of rows/data entries that contain links or phone numbers to specific retailers, distributors, and their prices - and this reference system could also be repeated for data entries listing reviews.

Instead of doing this just for myself (if I choose to go through with it), I was think of putting it all in a google document - and leaving it open to the community - a sort of CITR Family exercise, if you will, that way we'll all have a reference to the things that are availible for our cars.

    What does everybody think?

Seems like a great idea! However Im not too sassy on the Excel spreadsheets with public viewing, more than one user viewing at one time etc?

Hmm... I'm not sure if Google docs has those issues but I'm more than willing to take suggestions? How would we keep it community?

Moved from Lounge to General Automotive.

Start off with the categories of the type of mods you can do? eg, Suspension, Drivetrain, etc..

Google docs is good, but its problematic when you have to micro manage permission for each person to edit the document.

You can do simultaneous viewing with google docs. Doing permission isn't too hard to do. I'm sure we could just have it publicly viewable and only have a select few people that can actually alter/edit the document.
People could always post comments/notes on things they think should be added.
