OEM DC5R fog lights

hey all,
dont know if this is the right forum to post in so if its rong, mods please move it. just bought my ride about 3 weeks ago and the previouse owner put OEM fog lights on it. i heard that the fog lights block off air that cools down the breaks. is this true? and if so are they worth ripping out?

yes, the DC5R has brake ducts, that collect air from the front where your foglamps are. There should still be air flowing through it though, because the foglamps do not block off the vents completely.

Does your car get tracked often or at all? If it only sees the street i wouldnt bother removing them

hopefully down the road abit ill be taking it to the track, and plus there are heaps of open roads here in wagga so i drive it pritty hard sometimes.

personally i'd leave it in. only when you start experiencing brake fade should you need to take them out. They're easy to take out anyway I believe. You can just leave the harness in there, and take the foglamps out when you track or plan on driving it hard.

oh alright.thanks for the help guys. just one other quick question, if there is a build of brake dust on the front wheels does that mean that the breaks are fading? cause the brake dust builds up fairly quickly, and only on the front wheels.

no it doesnt mean the brakes are fading, just means that the pads produce a lot of dust. you will experience brake fade when your brakes get too hot, and you start losing some braking force... so you will only get it after repeated heavy braking.

also ripping out the fog lights doesn't mean it will cool down your brakes.
the original DC5R came with actual ducts that was drawing air from the front bumper...so you will need to buy these to get maximum effect. However, the TypeS does not have brake ducts but still have the same brake setup.

I assume he own a DC5R......As fueltank mention....leave it as it is....unless you feel brake fade while you drive it hard.....but you won't really feel much....unless you really...I mean <<Really>> drive it hard enough and long enough to get ur brake fade....also if ur brake make a lot of brake dust....its depends on what kind of brake pads you running on ur current setup...if you run oem pads it shouldn't be much dust compare to aftermarket pads.....hope that helps....
