    Engine Mount Upgrade Advice

    Hi All

I'm getting a set of stainless PLM headers for my DC5 and I've been strongly advised to upgrade the engine mounts to avoid cracking the headers.

The first thing I wanted to know is if engine mounts inserts would do the trick like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Energy-Motor...9ca14b&vxp=mtr

This would do the front and back which is where the header problem would arise from.

If not I've been looking at the INNOVATIVE STEEL mounts like this:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/INNOVATIVE-S...4220b5&vxp=mtr

However I have no idea which flex level to get i.e. 60A, 75A etc. Also the front mount must be purchased seperately for these.

The car is 100% street driven.

Any advice would be most appreciatted.

from memory 70-75A is traditionally the industry standard hardness for most engine mounts. 80-85A is a nice upgrade and 90A (if you can get it ) is teeth breaking!

Okay so 60A would actually be softer?

What are the actual benefits of upgrading? Do they just stop the engine jolting?

There's been some cases of the rear innovative mounts failing. If you were to get aftermarket mounts go for Hasport.

We have them in stock ready to go with local warranty.

And what are the actual benefits I'd get from the Hasports?

As fatboyz says, there have been some failures of the rear Innovative mounts, so if you get the Hasport you get a more reliable mount. Possibly.

I would not get harder than around 60a for street use, there is really no need. Even the Energy Suspension inserts will do the job although in my experience they give more in car vibrations than the 60a full replacement mounts from Hasport or Innovative.

I went with hasports 62a mounts, tho im running 70a in the rear. NVH isn't so bad, and it does get better once they wear in. Went with hasports since i've read cases where the innovative inserts started ovaling out

i think some good advice will be "put a heat shield on your headers"

Have you had a look at the inserts? Sometimes it's a bit hard to tell unless you take out the mount and look at them. I had to replace my rear inserts as they were significantly ovalled. I still have them around and will take a picture one day to show you guys. It's pretty bad

My tranny side mount started to oval out as well probably because my rear was so far gone, the excessive engine movement was taking its toll on the other mounts.

IMO, the Hasports mounts are a better design that use better quality eurothane. I have the 70a Hasports and the vibes are very minimal

Does the heat from the header cause deformation?

heat from the headers (that will glow red to orange hot) certainly doesn't help prevent deformation of the mount!!
