Weight reduction

Weight reduction. Worth it or not? What have you guys shed to save weight? Was it worth it?

Took out spare tire then thought better of it.

I have a GSI dc2 that im building, current weight reduction,

No spare, tools or jack.
No sound dampering inside the car
No heat blanket under the dash
No rear seats or carpet
No AC
Light weight seats (4kg ea)
Spoon calipers (yes there lighter than oem)
carbon hood.
Light weight batter and relocation for weight distrabution

A few other things im going to do

Remove all unrequired wiring
Lighter rims

Some people go hard out but this is still my weekend car. Worth it? well it depends on what your goal is i guess

Stripped rear seats, works alright as my daily as i never carry more than 1 person.
Can't really tell much of a difference. It's now a whole lot noisier in my cabin though.

Weekend, track car.
Since i got the lighter rims ive had a noticable increase.
So the thought has crossed my mind pulling out the amp, amp wirering kit. And only running the rear speakers off the deck. No fronts. That would save 12kg

Then cutting the rear plastics in half so the rear seats are still usable but it doesnt continue past the rear seats. no trim in boot at all.

Then replacing driver recaro with a lighter bucket seats! something like Bride - Gardis III.

I already dont use the spare tire, tools ect. Just carry a inflation can

If you have a Type R the hardest things have already been removed(sound deadening + that super heavy rubber mat behind that dash)

The next things are spare tyre, tools. The next biggest thing is the stock recaros and rails, these things weigh a TON!

Wheels and tyres make a huge difference.

And yer the front seats weigh 18.6kg each including rails

I think the biggest problem is most of the weight you remove is from the back. you want to try and have as close as possible to a 50/50 set up.

This could mean running dead weight to get 50/50 MAY be better for cornering speed. (depends on how much you need to run of course)

I have not weighted my car on scales yet (its in pieces) but ill be placing my batter based on the read out from the scales.

I highyl doubt it will be enought for a 50/50 set up but will try. if you looking for acceleration and straight line it wont matter where the weight comes off from.

Excuse my ignorance, but how many track days have you attended? If the answer is less than 10 then don't worry too much about weight reduction, yes it is a great performance increase for not much money but if you don't have much experience then you are just much better off focusing on track time and maintaining the car for track use.

Your car will never be as light as a CR-X anyway, just saying.

if your car is a weekend/track goer, its still a street car, leave your jack/tools/spare wheel in ffs, stupid to throw it out cos your car will be lighter. im sure u wont be too happy stranded on the side of the road with a flat and whatnot.

furthermore, i doubt going to the track especially with our skill, we'll be able to make use of a slightly lighter car. I have no intentions of stripping my interior whenever i go to the track, wont be for a long time lol. to simple answer your question, NO.

Personally I kinda wish I left my car stock and tracked it to its limit before doing small upgrades like some weight reduction, seeing the difference in times and pushing them to their limits.

But its like any thing. Why spend so much on exhaust, intake ect. And then leave all the weight in!
