Car Sound System, where is the cheapest place to install it? Subwoofer yes/no?

    Hey guys,

I'm deciding to put a new sound system in my car. I have a pioneer set: head unit, amplifier, 2 high quality speakers and a 12" subwoofer. Called JB hifi up and ask how much it would cost to INSTALL it, they said:
    head unit - $80
    rear speakers - $60
    front speakers - $60
    subwoofer - $35
    amplifier 4 channel - $120
    2 channel - $95
    5 channel - $150

So altogether for my sound system probably $300 or so. Just wondering if you guys know any other places that install the whole lot for a cheaper price?

Also thinking if i should put the subwoofer in the car? Do you guys have subs in your cars lol? It will be sliding around when I drive, like in my old VTI-R.. so should I install the sub in the back of my rear seats or just leave the sub in the trunk.

I'm also thinking of getting a new head unit, maybe a more modern one?
    I'm not sure..what do u guys think?

    Thanks

Thats pretty cheap for a sound system if that really is the right prices. Unless its crap items cause thats dirt cheap!

Don't forget a full wiring kit also!

Just get a head unit if the stock speakers are ok.. I replaced my stock speakers with much nicer aftermarket ones because they were blown and I still run the stock head unit.

Its a type R.. Forget the sub..

LOL i think you guys misunderstood me, I meant I have the sound system already and that's the prices for them to install certain parts but wow you guys paid a lot lol

Sorry must be my poor wording :P

And the wiring i already have.. it was stripped out of my old written off VTI-R with the rest of my sound system

Also I'm still iffy about the sub :\ I was thinking the same as you DC2R and like it will just weigh my car down lol

Like when i use to have my old car.. it was enjoyable to listen to etc but i couldn't stand it constantly on lol just gives me a headache.. so i only turned it on when i was cruising.

But i guess the main thing is to put in my head unit with an AUX input and a working CD player lol.. can't stand listening to the radio all the time!! And yeh high quality speakers gotta love them

                  Ahhhh makes sense now!

Amp, speakers and sub you can wire your self it is very easy! Head unit maybe get a professional to do that bit

Even though, $60 to install speakers...sheesh i should start installing speakers for thats a 20-30min job if that?!

I reckon get a sub, you always have the option through as headunit to turn it off or crank it. Weighs the car down? A basic 12" sub in a box should only way around 10kgs?
For me music without bass is just poo! Obviously not full hubib spec dooof doof boot shakes but yeah you get my point

honestly, if your love your car and you like hands on you should install yourself. i installed a full system including all new wiring in my alfasud when i was aged 16, this included removing all seats, carpets and panels to get wiring through. trust me its fun doing it yourself.

and now im wiring in a sub in a dc5r, if you dont want the extra 10kg or so you could simply remove it when not needed, simply connect the cables to an earth adapter and unplug from battery. simple

i reckin it is a must have in a system

Personal experience man, unless you go to some really loving people, things like headunit, attempt to do it yourself. Cause them butchers have no LOVE for your car it's YOUR R, if you wanna protect it's cleanliness attempt to do it yourself.

A friend helps me do the wiring so I do the layout in my cars I get to make it neat and clean run it however I want, bring it to him then he solders it all up win win !
