A late introduction and a late departure + pics + vids

    Hey there,

I joined this forum by request of my uncle (Evatec – JDM DC5R, AU DC5R & JDM DC2R) around 2 years ago as an aspiring teenager dreaming of buying my very own Type R. Little did I know that within the year, with his help, I would have my hands on an impressive looking DC5R.

Unfortunately for all those who knew him, Evan passed away in late February this year from a heart attack while playing competitive squash. Those who knew him will agree that he had an extremely competitive nature and when it came to the track he was a weapon to be dealt with in his Type R’s. Evan was not just in love with Honda’s, he was infatuated by them. He went to great lengths reading manual after manual and pulling the car to pieces to understand the workings behind it, mostly to do his own servicing, tuning and upgrades. With 10 years of working as a mechanic, a degree in mechanical engineering and a degree in applied science (computing and maths) behind him, he didn’t have much trouble grasping most of the concepts behind the running of his prized DC5R. His racing accomplishments included competing in the African Dakar Rally on his motorbike and taking out the Wednesday afternoon sprint series at Queensland Raceway (Road 4 Class) for the past 3 years running. His competitive character brushed off onto me and soon I found myself at the track along side him, certainly not as fast, but competing all the same. It was a pleasure knowing such a passionate and knowledgeable person and an even greater pleasure to be related to such a person. He will be sorely missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

As I said, I picked up my car at the end of ’07 from a friendly Sydney man and drove it back up to QLD. Since I bought it I have only added a few mods (ECU, CAI, weather shields and of course the ClubITR sticker). I am the 2nd owner of the car and this is my 2nd car (a great improvement from my ’00 Hyundai Accent). I look forward to meeting a few of the Brisbane-ites in the near future and improving my car's performance.

Oh noes! I was just trolling through some of Evatec's posts the other night admiring his knowledge and willingness to help out others with their part number questions. I was actually commenting to ChargeR that Evatec was actually the original pioneer of the bigger tyre on the front of a DC5R in Australia (well, CITR at least). He'll be sadly missed.

If you don't mind me asking, how old was Evan?

Your car looks great Jayden Thanks for sharing. Out of curiously, why do you still run the Apexi heatshield?

I never had the chance to meet Evan, but a friend of mine did, and said he was a awesome guy.

After seeing your car, and knowing about his, i thought you guys might have been related or that you bought his car off him.

Again, sorry to hear about your lose.

Back to the positives, I haven't seen your car around uni recently (We've only just come back from holidays, and i don't really go stalking the uni looking for it ). We'll have to meet up so i can check it out.

Well it was pretty easy to steal actually. It only consisted of a bolt and nut setup to pin it in (I knew it was going to get stolen one day). It got stolen late one night when I was in an exam at uni, and it didn't help that I got pumped by the exam so I was extra angry when I got back to the car and realised I had no wing.
When I take the Type R wing off now it still looks good with the 4 wing mounts sitting there but looks kinda weird with the wing on, but I'm not tempted to take them off and weld the holes any time soon, I don't mind the look - reminds me of what I once had.

Yeh I like the look of the ganador mirrors but I was originally swaying towards some kind of cf mirrors, shit may as well be cf ganadors but the problem arises when/if I get defected for carbon hood, it'll look weird - white car with cf mirrors.

                          1. I take my canards off because some people (at Uni, in Rockhampton - not so much in Bris) think it's funny to stomp them and rip them off your car - I do not. So I only put them on when I feel safe.
                          2. Correct, the red material tape is to prevent stone chips / rubber / incase I 'd off the track.
                          3. I actually do have the injen CAI, hence the big spare space, however I didn't take the heat shield out from my SRI because... well basically there is a massive space there if I do take it out.. I have no reason.

Yes he certainly did love trecking over to Japan to site see and to bring back 2-4 tyres at a time. In the end he was running 255 semi slicks A048's I believe. He was either 54 or 55, I feel bad because I can't be certain. I run the Apexi heat sheild because of the huge space left there / I was testing to see if the CAI was better than the SRI (obviously injen won out) / I'm too lazy to take it out.

I wish I had his car, as you can tell my car is pretty much the imbred Mugen, non JDM version of his hahha. Yeh mate, I mostly have night lectures so that's when I'm there - pull me over next time you see me.
