    My DIY custom air box

    Hey everyone, i thought i'd share with you guys my customized dc5r air box..
    I originally had a after market induction pipe and pod filter, but although it sounded amazing, it felt like it was sucking in too much hot air from the headers. So i decided i wanted an aftermarket airbox. But finding out that i needed to sell my car to afford and aftermarket air box, i then decided to alter and modify the standard one!
    Here are some pictures... i would love to here all your comments, even if you think my airbox sucks! i need to know what you guys think!

    You can see the section i cut out so i could get some flowing air from the hole in the guard. Then the inside of the standard air box was carefully cut out and i plastic welded all the holes.


    i used a replacement trust air filter to get more flow then the standard paper filter.









    This mesh was added at a later stage to prevent any unwanted rain water that might enter the engine bay.

    That DIY red spark plug cover fuse box lid, and IM cover looks terrible.

    I think you would of benefitted more by modifying the front scoop to gather more cold air from the front.

        The previous owner sprayed the spark plug and fuse cover... :s
        yeah i think your right about modifying the front scoop, thats next on the list!

        The vtec cross over sounds less aggressive than the pod i previously had. But this air box climbs through the rev range alot quicker!

          I hope it won't suck any unfiltered air into ya engine, cause that's gonna cost ya heaps later on dude.

            The Standard air box sits very tight over the filter, no leaks.

              i take that back. its just like the hondata airbox mod with a hole...nice...i guess.

                Its hard to explain, but the top part of the air box makes it impossible for any unfiltered air... if you have a look at the 4th picture, you might understand

                  that's an interesting mod.
                  it seems like it's drawing air from the wheel arch
                  better hope no large amount of water manages to get into that hole

                    alas, it does.

                    when i had the SRI and drove through puddles, my filter was wet. heck, one of the guys that was on here before actually hydrolocked his car with a SRI.

                      most after market air filters are exposed to getting wet. i know the aem v2 set up has it's air filter in the corner to draw air from the wheel arch. so my setup actually has less risk from getting wet because it's only a small opening.

                        but you have a drop in filter, thats meant to be in a box? not a normal oiled filter?

                            np! that said i have no experience with hydrolock or anything so meh, but might be something worth thinking about...afaik unless the filter is submerged...you aint gunna lock.

                            good one you for ditching the SRI, heatsoak ftl.

                              maybe drill a couple of small holes in the base so water can drain out.

                              Unless there is already some stock, cant remember....
