I'm in the market for a decent tripod. Any recommendations?

A lot of people like the manfrottos as their a good value for money tripod.

            I've got a Feisol that I love.

Good stuff for not going for anything cheap and nasty

that's what i've got, and recommend it although a lot of the time i've got my 486RC2 ball head on it because its so much easier to adjust. I think this combo has been replaced by the 190XDB / 804RC2 too.

it seems like their popularity has pushed up their prices in the last couple years too!

RIP! go by teds on pitt st. they've got most of the manfrotto stuff, and you can negotiate prices with them too. e.g... Manfrotto 190XDB/804RC = $269.95

Or if you were after more basic stuff, you can try JB Hifi @ TGV.

Yeap, exactly what Thanh said. The 190D and 141RC is quite an old model but still works very well.

if its outdoors, you're just wasting batteries by having the stofen on - especially if the flash is pointed straight ahead.. Unless you're bouncing the flash off something, the stofen is pretty much useless, as it's just cutting the amount of light coming from the flash and making it work harder (assuming you've got ettl-2 on)
