Here's Why Australian Car Culture Is Probably The Best In The World Right Now

It was pretty cool to wake up this morning and read an article from Car Throttle based on #THEORANGEEFFECT EOMM for Self Injury Awareness Day. It’s titled: “Here's Why Australian Car Culture Is Probably The Best In The World Right Now”

These few lines really resonated with us and if you were there on the night we're sure you would agree: “Anyone who has spent any time in the car community knows it is one of the most inclusive, friendly places to hang out… but out in the real world most people are welcoming and more than happy to help each other. It’s great to see that love being spread to those who need it.”

When the rain started plummeting down on Thursday afternoon, we all looked over to each other thinking “Not again, you can’t be serious”. But as we looked around the parking lot, the crowd just stood in the rain having honest conversations, wearing orange and admiring the cars on show. No one had left. Shortly after the rain stopped and hundreds of cars started flowing through the gates.

The highlight of our night was the many conversations we had with strangers: people we've never met before, people who traveled out to meet ‘Cars For Hope', people sharing their stories.

It points to the contagious nature of honesty. Many of us have lived secretly for so long that transparency seems novel. Then we find people who know a different sort of safety and belonging from sharing their lives with others. We can relate to each of these stories in different ways, there's no doubt about it. There is relief in sharing your life with someone else and joy in realising that, in our sharing, we won’t crumble. Rather, we find that we are held together by one another.

Our goal in attending events, setting up stands, printing flyers, and standing at a booth for hours is firmly rooted in hoping that you join us there. Thank you to everyone reading this for believing in our story and in the stories of those around you.
