    ClubITR edit:

    ===============================================

    An article written by Louis Cordony (cordz):

    Despite predictions among members on the forum for a warm, breezy, summer’s day, temperatures at ClubITR’s 2012 Annual BBQ were ridiculous. Without any savour of wind, Lucifer himself would have been complaining about the heat. It was no wonder that drinks had sold out by the early afternoon. Any sane human would have been at one of Sydney’s many beaches. But if you were a Honda enthusiast, you would have been at Lane Cove National Park and you would have been damn impressed.

    Determined to be bigger than last year’s annual barbeque, facilities were arranged to accommodate a relapse of 2011's huge turnout - which was a success … the traditional formula of hot Hondas, cheap food, desirable raffle prizes and photo porn, made for a fantastic day. Felix, forum mastermind, kept the formula intact for this year. So the only figure more impressive than the max temperature was the turn out.

    A full line-up of the heroic Integra DC2R accommodated one side of the BBQ’s parking facilities, and whether you are a purist for a stock build or a molesting modifier, you wouldn’t have been disappointed. Especially with Brandon Lockwood’s BYP-built DC2R advertising the potential of the 18-year-old chassis so well. It’s carbon-clad, roll-caged and stripped shell is propelled by a K20/K24 BYP engine mated with a Rotrex Supercharger. Blacktopping the power is taken care of by a Wavetrac LSD and 265mm-wide front A050s, which help rocket the front-wheel drive monster around Wakefield Park in 1:00:8.

    Just for pure photo porn, DC2s were colour grouped in their red, white, black and yellow outfits, which contrasted against the white sand of Lane Cove National Park, it had all the right neurons in an onlooker’s retinas firing.

    Along the other side of the camp were the ClubITR DC5s with various baller spec wheel and aero packages. What the line-up also had, were various members on show who aren’t regularly heard on the ClubITR’s interwebs.

    … most notably was RA73ED and his DC5R, who had people blushing, particularly Alex (wheel super-geek) at his super clean CCW wheels, but others gushing at a very stealth forced-induction set up when the bonnet was lifted. The Greddy turbocharger sits on a log manifold, with the manifold, turbo intake piping and turbocharger painted in a stealth black. With only 9psi of boost pressure it helps to push out near 200kW at the front wheels.

    Entry to the second parking bay was slowed down as drivers negotiated a treacherous speed hump at some extreme angles, forcing many to cock a leg. It’s rocky peak scraped various lips, exhausts and bumpers, providing on-lookers with much entertainment as each car tried their best to keep their machine’s underside from becoming a victim of the hump.

    Victor’s late entrance with his EP3 was made even more awkward after his front Ultrex lip took on a purpose of a dirt plow. Luckily it’s made of plastic and was easily fixed.

    The second parking bay was an eclectic mix of Honda models and engines: FN2s, EKs, EP3s, EGs, K20s, H22s; you name it, it was there. Except, there were no Honda Hero NSXs this year.

    Yes, you see right, sights and sounds didn’t stop at Hondas. Someone took an overdose of brave pills that morning and decided to rock-up in a HSV Maloo R8, as the BBQ took on a personality of street race meet more familiar in the movie Fast and Furious. Various car cliques dropped by and put their best metal forward.

    Even with the sweltering heat, it was a fantastic day. Big thanks is owed to Felix Alim and Berty Nghiem for coordinating the event, Dave for taking on duties as BBQ Chef, BYP for serving the food, and the sponsors: Scotts Honda, Works Engineering Australia, teamGROUNDzero, Extreme Project World, Japanese Sports Car Club, Circuit Club, JDM Yard, BYP Racing and Developments, Whatthefad, Zen Garage, Meguiar’s Australia, Cars For Hope, Street Cover and THE-LOWDOWN, who make the prize raffle so desirable. Bring on next year!

    - Louis Cordony (cordz)
