    Kevin's AP1

Hey guys I'm Kevin, I recently turned 20 a couple of weeks ago and this is my pawn shop.
LOL jks, I'm just a broke uni student over here in Perth, of which has the smallest Honda community in the southern hemisphere lmao, and yeah I just wanted to start a little thread of mine to document the extremely slow and at times disappointing progression with my current car - an '01 Silverstone AP1 S2K.
It definitely isn't as ballerific or hard core track spec as some of the other crazy builds on here, so please be gentle ..

I've owned the S2K for a little over a year now, however before that I had a 2005 NHBP base model Integra DC5 which was officially my first ever car. I spent all of my earnings from running tables at my uncle's restaurant and stacking shelves at a local IGA and put it into this over the course of about 4 years. Obviously as it was my first car a lot of lessons were learnt, but I am eternally grateful for it and would love to buy it back one day..

    First week

    It's last days..

It was loud, low and obnoxious, and I loved it.

Back to the present, I have owned the S2K for a little over a year now. After selling the Integra, a little beater EG Civic and all the DC5 parts that had yet to go on, I was able to purchase the AP1. The car came with the CE28s you see on it, Spoon Monoblock calipers and busted Koni shocks and springs. And red neons....
    First days.

So the car came with a scratched up front lip, and the first thing I decided to do was fix that up. An easy job nonetheless, however I learnt the hard way that there are in fact 4 different shades of Silverstone for the S2000 WTF. So I was driving around with a slightly off colour front lip for a while, before I decided to redo the whole thing. While at it, I decided to buy a duckbill spoiler as well because I just wanted to be different from the other dime a dozen Silverstone S2Ks out there.

Not long after, there was a Honda night held at the drags and I decided to take the S2K out for some fun. Didn't know how to launch it properly so best I could manage was a 15.1 lmfao. I didn't even know how to do a burnout.

A couple months after, the caveman-spec head unit was replaced and I added a subwoofer for maximum hektik. I also purchased and installed a Flow Designs front splitter and attended my first track day in the car. Also purchased and installed a 70mm Invidia test pipe to match the Q300 system.

After numorous spirited hill runs and the track day, I was sick of sliding around in the factory leather buckets so a set of DC2R Recaros and Bride RO rails were purchased. Also purchased and installed a set of Tein Flex Type Z coilovers.

Recently got a good deal off a mate for this HKS intake, which looks and sounds amazing, with a noticeable increase to throttle response.
Also a bunch of other things I've bought and done to the car that I can't really remember of right now haha.

So yeah, this is how the car is at the moment.

Currently waiting for a Whiteline 30mm sway bar to arrive. The ride height is not very practical for my liking so after I buy a new set of tyres will definitely be raising it. The UK spec alignment that I am currently running is awesome though, hoping it to be even more amazing with capable rubber. Next up on the list are some new tyres obviously and brake pads! Hopefully I'll be comfortably track ready by end of this year or early next year. Unfortunately, plans are slightly on hold as I am saving for a trip to Japan mid Jan next year!

More to come as time goes on

    Welcome.
Can you tell me more about the UK spec alignment?
Is this an obvious S2000 thing that I don't know about, due to not owning an S2000?

    Thank you.

uk alignment is basically a bit more camber than a strict oem setup would be, with around 1 mm toe-in each side on the rears to assist with limiting oversteer. ie keeping it stable!

        s2k noob
        yeah basically what ahoy said
-1 camber all round and 1mm toe in. not really that aggressive but really controls the rear of the car.

BTW cars looks awesome man! silver with bronze ce28s is a classic look!
also great work getting out to the track! these cars are meant to be driven hard!

          Thanks guys!
And yeah, what these guys said is correct.^^^^^^^
After I had it done I felt much, much more comfortable going around corners as the rear felt much more controlled and planted especially in corners that require higher speed. The car felt much less volatile and prone to sliding out mid corner! This is on some Yokohama comfort tyres as well, nothing special

I went for another spirited drive through the hills recently, however the front tyres keep scrubbing on the fender liner/fender so did not feel confident to go all out through sharper corners. Hoping the Whiteline swaybar will solve this issue as it is much thicker and would theoretically increase body roll stiffness, hopefully so that I would not have to raise the front height of the car. However, the rear will definitely be raised.

And yup!!! Tyres are a must, these Yoko comforts have been heat-cycled and put through its paces wayyy too much in its lifetime ...

                Whiteline front swaybar feedback

A friend and I bolted on the Whiteline swaybar today, car is waaay more flatter through turns which is lovely, but yes under steer is much more apparent in quicker corners. Inspires much more confidence through the corners as the car doesn't have that feeling where the rear could swing out on you at any moment.

I am hoping that wider and grippier tyres at the front (and all around of course) should sort out that feeling of initial understeer, as currently I feel that the thicker Whiteline swaybar overpowers the capability of my current comfort type street tyre during aggressive driving. Currently running 225/45 front and 245/40 rear Yokohama Decibels, and thinking of staying staggered but increase to a 235 front and 255 rear. On a good note, there is no more rubbing on the front fenders whatsoever now!

                  Small updates

Got a rear diffuser for a steal a couple of days ago from a mate, also thanks to him for helping to install. A few cuts required to make it fit with my Invidia Q300 exhaust system, but in the end it sat great and looked mint. Had to make a few extra brackets on the sides to stop it flapping during driving however. Also as the diffuser sits so low it has decreased drivability quite a bit so the car will definitely have to be raised, planning to do so once new tyres are bought. Also removed the duckbill temporarily; looks much, much cleaner.

Also went for a small cruise with my university car club, wouldn't mind a Silvia in the future..

                  Cheeky HJ's run

Quick photoshop of a friends AME Tracer's on my S2K, not bad but Silvierstone + Black S2Ks are so common imo

Clean car! Definitely leave the duckbill spoiler off. Also, DC2R Recaros look so good in the S2k hngggggg. (But I love dc2r recaros so... #bias)

Thanks man! Yeah, I probably will leave it off cos cbf wiring in another brake light..
And yeah, I wanted DC5R SR4 Recaros but there's no way they'd fit (they a bit beefier), as the bolsters of these SR3s don't even clear the tranny tunnel and barely clears the door!

Hey all, so long time no update! Few things have happened in the past couple of months.

Recently aquired a set of Advan RG2s that came with A048 semi slicks which was a bonus! (Dad took my CE28s and put them on his daily lol)

Also, with the new wheel and tyre set up, it was time to be functional so I raised my car to a proper height, and got a new alignment. Now running a lot less camber all around, and also requested for 0 toe in the rear so will see how that works out. Feels fine atm.

Most exciting however, is my track day I have booked for the 26th of this Feb! Hopefully my Ballade sports top VTEC solenoid gasket comes in time so I can install that along with the main solenoid gasket to fix my oil leak issue and i'll be underway. Also need to purchase and mount a fire extinguisher, any ideas guys?

I mounted mine to the 'bump' in the passenger footwell. Just Tec screwed it in. Been meaning to remove the carpet so I can nut sert it in. Hasn't been an issue yet and it's been in for 2 years+

Others like shak have made a bracket which attaches to the front seat bolts and it sits just under there.

Both methods are in our threads so you can look through there for pics

Nice updates, looking forward to your report from your first track day.

I'd make a bracket that mounts to the front two mounts of the passenger seat. 1kg of fire extinguisher could turn into a missile in an accident and self tapping screws and nutserts are not a strong fastening method.

                              Thanks for the suggestions guys!
I actually had the same idea to Todd to mount it to the passenger footwell bump.
I definitely do not track often, so it would be a good spot as its easily accessible and removable if necessary.
