The BMW Art Cars World Tour
Since 1975 prominent artists from throughout the world have designed BMW automobiles of their times, all making extremely different artistic statements.
Over time the BMW Art Cars have been displayed worldwide in renowned museums such as the Guggenheims of New York and Bilbao, the Royal Academy of London, the Louvre in Paris and the New York Whitney Museum of Modern Art.
There are 15 exhibits in the complete collection with four of these currently on a world tour and appearing at the Foundation Hall at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Circular Quay, Sydney.
Sydney will be the only city in Australia to showcase this collection including those painted by the late Andy Warhol, Australian artist Ken Done, American minimalist painter and sculptor, Frank Stella and the late American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.
Australia has not seen an exhibition of this kind for more than 17 years when the BMW Art Cars were first shown in Sydney in 1989. At the conclusion of the exhibition in Sydney, the cars will move to New Zealand and India, before returning to Europe.
During the current tour, which began in Malaysia last year, the four cars have been exhibited in Singapore, the Philippines and Korea.
