My next guess would say it's the CV Joints before your ball joints...
After 145,000km on my DC5 my OEM ball joints will still fine before i replaced em.
Im from Sunshine VIC. When I jacked up the car and turned the wheels, no problems at all. I think I've found the problem !

Yes if you have an 02-04 Type R a ball joint suited for the 02-04 RSX Type S from the US will fit. There's no guarantee that the damaged boot means there is anything wrong with the joint itself, but it's best to replace them anyway. Let us know if that fixes your noise.
For a car that's seen a few kms it's not uncommon for the paint or powdercoat on the control arms to get chipped off and then the control arm will rust. It's not ideal, but it's not a big problem either.
